Baking Project
The aim of this proposed project is to establish a Baking School at our Soup Kitchen. Bread will be supplied at subsidized prices to feeding schemes in the Vaal.The ultimate aim of the project is to train community members to become fully fledged caterers, who can later open their own businesses. Training will be provided our own in-house trainer as well as by Premier Foods.
Community Crime Prevention Programme
VCE is closely involved with a the SAPS and the local Prosecutor, with a number of projects to combat crime in the whole of the Vaal. The concept involves the mobilization of various stakeholders. These projects are made possible via a generous sponsorship from Mittal Steel South Africa.
These projects include
- The extention of the Street Eyes project from the CBD to the residential areas and townships.
- The supply of a number of bicycles to enable the SAPS to extend the Street Eyes project to residential areas and townships
- The supply of a number of extra motorcycles to the SAPS for patrolling the CBD.
- The supply of 500 high visibility Bibs to identify members of the SAPS community patrollers
- The upgrading of the charge office at the Vanderbijlpark Police Station to make it more user friendly.
HIV/Aids Employee support programme
VCE provides the employees of Mittal Steel South Africa with a support programme to promote early knowledge of their HIV-status to allow for early targeted behavioral change interventions- thereby minimizing the impact of the disease. The programme has been extended to include the family members of all Mittal Steel South Africa’s employees.
The service includes
- testing
- counseling facilitating
- access to treatment
- monitoring social and legal support of affected MSSA employees and their immediate families.
