Tshepiso Houses
On Mittal Steel South Africa’s request Vesco build 110 houses for the ex Kwa-madala residents. The relocation was successful but some of the residents are not meeting their rental obligations.
VCE
Vesco was contracted to demolish all the houses on the small holdings Mittal Steel South Africa bought out. The secondhand building material and recovered equipment was sold back to the community.
Community road building project
Vesco played a mayor role to get all the role players (Mittal Steel South Africa , VCG and the local community) together to start a community driven road building program in the townships.
Street eye project
VCE with Mittal Steel South Africa decided to use part of the funds earmarked for crime prevention by Mittal to equip the so called Street Eye project with 20 bicycles. This will enable the SAPS to extend the programme from the CBD to a number of residential areas and townships. This will help in combating crime by visible policing in high risk areas during office hours.
Vesco Opportunity Centre
The mission of the Opportunity Centre is to assist and support affected employees by offering an one-stop service:
- Possible alternative employment
- Career Planning (focus on the future)
- Tax Advice
- Training and retraining
- Emotional Support
- Financial and Investment Advice
- Business Advice
All the Services aim to deploy affected employees as soon as possible.
Various Training Services are provided by the Opportunity Centre.
